Florida is known for its commercial production of tropical foliage plants. Tropical foliage plant that often stands out, even as a small specimen, is Epipremnum aureum or golden Pothos (Money Plant). In a tropical setting the plants grow to an enormous size and they can strangle out other plants. It is also known as “Hunters Robe”. They key is a lot of heat and humidity which helps break down nutrients on the barks of the trees they choke. The heart-shaped leaves are green with white or yellow variegation get as large as 3 feet across.  As a houseplant, pathos foliage stays small at around three and one-half inch long. Pothos do best in bright, diffuse light, which might be found indoors near a window or on a patio shaded by trees. It is best to mount the vine a a piece of tree bark that has been soaked as these plants are “Orchid-Like”. Epipremnum does well in a hanging basket to show off its graceful vines, or in a regular pot centered on a plant stand.  This plant also does well when trained up a moss totem which allows the roots to grow into the medium.  These plants can live outdoors in USDA Zones 10-12. In the North, temps prevent these problems as any temps below 80F slow growth. As long as you keep these cuttings in a moist medium they already have roots to attach to just about anything.
